The Cyclones lost in extra innings on Friday to Aberdeen 5-3. The loss ends Brooklyn’s hunt for the Playoffs, mathmatically eliminating them from post-season contention.
The Cyclones took an early lead, scoring the first three runs of the game. Aberdeen, however, tied the game in the fourth inning, and in the bottom of the 11th inning, the IronBirds took the lead and closed the door on the Cyclones season.
Offensively, Brooklyn collected nine hits in the game. RF Seth Williams led the way, going 3-for-3 with a triple and a run scored. Juan Lagares, Cesar Cordido, Josh Satin and Ike Davis picked up the rest of the hits.
RHP Scott Shaw made his 14th start of the year. Shaw pitched four innings and allowed three runs (two earned). Wendy Rosa, Matias Carrillo, Jeff Kaplan, Yury Santana (2-4) and Roy Merritt all followed Shaw, and combined for seven innings and allowed two runs.
The Cyclones will play their final game of the season on Saturday, September 6th. It will be Fan Appreciation Night. The first 2,500 fans will receive an Edgar Alfonzo T-shirt Jersey presented by Long Island University.
