The Cyclones scored five runs in the first two innings, but went to extra innings and won on a walk-off single by RF Kirk Nieuwenhuis. The game got underway after an hour and 21 minute rain delay, but the wait was well worth it as Brooklyn was able to even up the series with the Muckdogs.
The scoreboard got some early company, as the Cyclones scored four runs in the bottom of the first and added another in the second. SS Reese Havens, playing his first game at shortstop all season after starting at DH in his first 19 games, went 2-for-4, including a two-RBI triple down the right field line in the first inning. C Jordan Abruzzo also added an RBI double in the first inning before 3B Eric Campbell drove in Havens on a sacrifice fly. CF Sean Ratliff set up the game-winning run with a single up the middle to begin the tenth inning. Nieuwenhuis (pictured, by George Napolitano), three days removed from his 21st birthday, smoked an RBI triple to deep center field in the second inning before hitting the game-winning single.
RHP Jenry Mejia made his seventh start of the season for Brooklyn. Mejia allowed three runs on seven hits and two walks with six strikeouts. LHP Roy Merritt pitched 1.1 innings and surrendered two runs after giving up a single and a hitting a batter. It was the first time all season Merritt gave up more than one earned run in a game. RHP Yury Santana relieved Merritt and threw 1.2 innings, allowing three hits and no runs and a strikeout. RHP Stephen Clyne (1-1) picked up his first win for Brooklyn, pitching two scoreless innings and giving up just two hits and a walk with four strikeouts.
