Brooklyn had its winning streak stopped at five with a loss on Saturday, falling to the Yankees, 6-1. With the loss, the Cyclones now trail Staten Island by three games for first place in the McNamara Division.
RHP Scott Shaw (3-3) made his eighth start of the year. After previously winning two straight decisions, Shaw went just 1.2 innings, allowed six runs and struck out four batters. Matias Carrillo, Jim Fuller and Wendy Rosa all followed Shaw and held the Yankees scoreless throughout the remainder of the game, while striking out nine.
Offensively, Brooklyn managed six hits. 2B J.R. Voyles (pictured, by George Napolitano) delivered the biggest hit, as he hit his third home run of the season in the ninth inning. Jason Jacobs, Jose Jimenez, Sean Ratliff, Kirk Nieuwenhuis and Ralph Henriquez all added the other hits.
The Cyclones continue their series against the Yankees in Staten Island on Sunday. They return home August 4 to conclude their series against the Yankees. On Monday August 4, the first 2,500 fans will receive baseball caps presented by Ridgewood Savings Bank. It will also be Medieval, NYPD and Q104 Listener Night.
