The New York-Penn League's fourth annual mid-season All-Star Game was played on Tuesday, August 19th, and a trio of Cyclones pitchers represented Brooklyn -- righthanders Brad Holt, Yury Santana, and Chris Schwinden.
With Schwinden unavailable to pitch in the game (he pitched for the Cyclones on Sunday, Holt and Santana were the only two Cyclones to appear in the game, with each throwing one hitless inning in a winning effort for the National League affiliates..
Holt took the mound in the third frame, striking out the first and last batters he faced, with a walk sandwiched in between. That runner was thrown out trying to steal second. Santana came on in the eighth inning, and promptly induced two fly balls and a ground ball to keep the AL at bay.
The NL made a comeback to win in the bottom of the ninth inning, with neither Cyclones pitcher factoring in the decision.
Holt -- the Mets' third pick of the 2008 draft, out of UNC-Wilmington -- entered the All-Star Break ranked fourth in the league with a 1.98 ERA, and also leads the league with 69 strikeouts. In 11 starts this season, he is 4-3. In 54.2 innings, Brad has allowed 34 hits, 14 runs, 12 earned, and 27 walks, while striking out 69. Opponents are hitting just .178 against Holt this season. In 20 innings, he has allowed 15 hits, eight runs, six earned, and 10 walks, with 28 strikeouts. Yury has only surrendered a run three times in 19 total appearances. In 12 of his 20 appearances, he has not allowed a hit. Since July 20th, Santana has allowed just four hits (three coming in one game) in eight innings over eight appearances. His 1.2 innings pitched on 8/10 vs. BAT was his longest outing of the season.
