• Served as the minor league field coordinator with the San Diego Padres during the 2009 campaign…It marked his second stint with the Padres after serving as a minor league instructor from 1991-94.
• In 2005, managed the Arkansas Travelers (AA) in the Los Angeles Angels organization…Led the team to the Texas League Eastern Division title.
• Spent three seasons as a Major League coach for the Kansas City Royals from 2001-03…Served as the bullpen coach in 2001 and 2003…Was first base coach in 2002.
• Managed Hermosillo in the Mexican Winter League in 2004…Previously spent seven winter league seasons managing Mayaguez in Puerto Rico, reaching the finals in six seasons and winning three championships…Also managed in six Puerto Rican League All-Star games…Named Manager of the Year following the 1995-96 and 1996-77 seasons in Puerto Rico…In 2002, was inducted into the Association of Major League Legends of Latin America.
• Managed the Dodgers Triple-A affiliate in Albuquerque during the 2000 season, guiding the Dukes to an 86-58 mark and Central Division title.
• Was the first base coach for the Chicago Cubs in 1998-99 after spending the previous three seasons as the Cubs minor league field coordinator.
• Joined the Detroit Tigers organization in 1986 and served in numerous roles over his six years with the team…Served as the minor league field coordinator from 1987-90, managed rookie-level Bristol in 1986 and Triple-A Toledo in 1990…Also served as the western states scouting director in 1986.
• Served as both minor league instructor and scouting supervisor in the Milwaukee organization from 1978-82…Began his managerial career in 1983, leading rookie-level Paintsville to a 47-25 record and the Appalachian League title…Was promoted to single-A Beloit in 1984 and earned Manager of the Year honors after the club captured the division crown…Won a North Division title in 1985 as the manager of Single-A Stockton.
• Began his professional career as a scout for Baltimore from 1973-75…Spent two season as a scout for the Major League Baseball Scouting Bureau in 1976-77.
• Was a player/manager during the 1971-72 seasons for Stratford (Ontario) in the Canadian Baseball League…Was a two-time All-Star outfielder.
• A native of Los Angeles, CA, was a three-year letterman at the University of California-Santa Barbara, earning all conference honors in 1969 and 1970.
• Tom, 68, resides in Rancho Mirage, CA and has five children: Brett, Kristin, Jamie, Becky and Shannon.
