The 2011 season was another record breaking year at MCU Park and it was all thanks to the support of the over 245,000 fans who came to Coney Island to cheer on the Cyclones. For the 11th straight season, the Cyclones led the NYPL in both average attendance and total attendance while also making Minor League Baseball history when the 3,000,000th fan came through the gates of the ballpark in July – a mark the team reached quicker than any other team in short-season baseball history.
On the field, the year was just as successful with the Cyclones claiming the New York-Penn League’s Wild Card for their eighth playoff appearance in 11 seasons. Danny Muno carved his place in the Cyclones record books with a NYPL leading .355 batting average – the highest in franchise history. Muno, the Mets eighth round selection in the 2011 MLB Draft, also tied Caleb Stewart’s record with 23 doubles. The 2011 season all saw Jose Reyes make his Brooklyn debut as part of his rehabilitation assignment on July 18th. Jose brought his trademark smile and “spotlight” to MCU Park while signing autographs for countless fans prior to the game.
The Cyclones again thank our fans for making Brooklyn baseball the success that it is, and we look forward to seeing you back in the stands next summer for our 12th season.
