Box Score

The Cyclones dropped the first game of a three-game series against the Williamsport Crosscutters on Friday night by a score of 9-4.  Brooklyn, however, still holds the best record in the NYPL (36-19) and an eight-game lead in the McNamara Division.

Brooklyn's bats managed four runs on eight hits on Friday, but it would not prove to be enough.  3B Brian Harrison went 2-for-4 with one run and two RBI, including his seventh home run of the season on a blast to left field in the sixth inning. CF Darrell Ceciliani put together his second multi-hit game in a row, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI, bringing his league-leading average to .372.  1B Jeff Flagg registered the Cyclones other RBI on a sacrifice fly to center in the sixth inning. RF Cory Vaughn, LF Will Cherry, C Juan Centeno, and SS Luis Nieves checked in with one hit each.

The Cyclones' pitching surrendered nine runs (six earned) on 10 hits while walking three and striking out a season-low one batter.  Starting pitcher Wes Wrenn (3-4) was tagged with his fourth loss of the season, tossing five innings and allowing six runs (four earned) on five hits while striking out one.  RHP Brian Needham came on in the six inning, and gave up three more runs (two earned) on four hits.  RHP Samuel Taveras made his ninth appearance in relief, hurling one scoreless inning and surrendering one hit.

The Cyclones continue their road trip leading into the  the New York-Penn League All-Star break, which begins on August 16th. Brooklyn will have eight All-Star representatives as well as the entire Cyclones coaching staff.

The Cyclones return home on August 18th to take on the Staten Island Yankees. That night, the first 2,500 fans will receive a Cyclones Umbrella presented by Geico. Wednesday will be Civil Servant Appreciation Night for the NYPD presented by MCU.
