The Brooklyn Cyclones (11-2) remained undefeated at home with a 5-0 win over Tri-City (5-6) on Thursday at KeySpan Park.
Fans enjoyed an exciting 0-0 pitchers' duel through the first 4.0 innings, until Luis Rivera broke the ice with an RBI single to score Matt Bouchard in the bottom of the fourth with two outs. That proved to be all starting pitcher Mark Cohoon would need, as he hurled 8.0 shutout innings, surrendering just three hits, and striking out eight.
Rivera then helped build insurance for Cohoon with a monster three-run home run over the left-center wall. Rivera finished the day 2-for-2 with four RBI and two walks. With the win, Cohoon improves to 3-0 on the year with a 1.35 ERA. The Cyclones are now 7-0 at home and have a five-game winning streak.
The Cyclones finish their series with the Valley Cats on Friday night, and the first 2,500 fans will receive a free Cyclones jersey pillow presented by Verizon. Also, following Friday's game, all fans will enjoy a spectacular holiday fireworks show at Keyspan Park.
