The Cyclones shutout the Lowell Spinners 7-0 in the first game of a three-game series on Wednesday night. It was the third shutout of the season for Brooklyn and the first of the season away from KeySpan Park. The other two shutouts were both by the score of 2-0 against State College and Vermont on July 13 and 23, respectively.
The Cyclones' nine-hit attack was led by 2B J.R. Voyles and DH Jose Jimenez, who each collected two hits apiece. Voyles delivered an RBI single in the second inning that scored two while Jimenez added insurance runs in the ninth with a two RBI double. C Jordan Abruzzo hit his third home run of the season for Brooklyn, and LF John Servidio doubled, drove in, and scored a run. RF Kirk Nieuwenhuis, 1B Ike Davis, and 3B Eric Campbell also singled for the Cyclones.
In his team-leading 10th start of the season, RHP Pedro P. Martinez (1-2, 3.20 ERA) was able to pick up his first win of the year. Martinez (pictured, by George Napolitano) worked 6.1 strong innings, allowing just three hits and three walks with six strikeouts. RHP Jeff Kaplan finished the game and notched his second save in as many appearances, throwing 2.2 no-hit innings while allowing only one walk with two strikeouts.
The Cyclones (25-23) continue their series against Lowell on Thursday and Friday. They return home on Saturday, August 9 at 6:00 pm to take on the Batavia Muckdogs.
