The Cyclones were able to complete the sweep, winning 5-4 against Vermont in 14 innings on Thursday afternoon.  Brooklyn tied the game on a three-run home run by 1B Jose Jimenez in the eighth inning before taking the lead for good in the 14th inning on an RBI single by DH Jason Jacobs in his first game since returning to the Cyclones earlier in the week.

Jacobs (pictured, by George Napolitano) batted third for Brooklyn in his first game back.  The two-time NYPL All-Star went 2-for-6 and drove in the game-winning run in the 14th inning on a line drive single to left field.  SS Matt Smith went 2-for-5, including a single in the eighth to help set up a three-run home run by Jimenez that tied the game at four.  2B J.R. Voyles scored the eventual game-winning run after a two-out double in the top of the 14th.  CF Kirk Nieuwenhuis went 2-for-6 with a double and LF Seth Williams added a single for the Cyclones.

RHP Pedro P. Martinez made his team-high ninth start of the season for Brooklyn.  Martinez pitched 2.2 innings and allowed seven hits and three runs with two strikeouts before giving way to RHP Erik Turgeon.  Turgeon followed his stellar eight-strikeout performance from last Sunday with another strong outing, throwing four shutout innings of one-hit ball with five strikeouts.  RHP Wendy Rosa helped get the game to extra innings, pitching 2.1 innings while giving up a home run with four strikeouts.  RHP Stephen Clyne came on in the bottom of the tenth and worked two no-hit innings, giving up just one walk with two strikeouts.  RHP Jeff Kaplan (2-1) picked up the win with three scoreless innings, allowing two hits with one strikeout.

With the win, the Cyclones (22-21) move into a tie for second place in the McNamara Division, just three games behind Staten Island.  Brooklyn and Staten Island square off in a crucial four-game series starting on Friday, with Saturday and Monday's games to be played at KeySpan Park.  A limited number of Box and Field Box seats are still available for the cross-borough showdown.
