CYCLONES SNAP LOSING STREAK

The Cyclones topped the Yankees by a score of 7-4 on Sunday to move to withing six games of first place.  Led by great starting pitching and clutch hitting, Brooklyn was able to establish an early lead and never looked back.   The win improves Brooklyn's record to 14-16 overall.

Offensively, the Cyclones racked up 11 hits. A pair of catchers -- C Cesar Cordido and C Jordan Abruzzo -- each got a pair of hits, with Abruzzo serving as the team's DH.  Cordido also picked up two RBI. 2B Josh Satin and LF Sean Ratliff also added hits and both scored a pair of runs. In addition, RF John Servidio had a hit and drove in two.

RHP Jenry Mejia (1-1) made his third start of the year, and his best thusfar, as he picked up his first win.  Mejia (pictured, by George Napolitano) tossed five scoreless innings, allowed only one hit and struck out nine Yankees.  RHP Erik Turgeon, LHP Jimmy Johnson and RHP Yury Santana followed Mejia to close out the win.

The Cyclones conclude their series against the Yankees at Staten Island tomorrow night. They return home on Tuesday July 22, when they start a new series against Vermont. Tuesday is Country Western Night and kicks off Fireworks Week, with a spectacular post-game show.
