Opening Day for the 2014 Brooklyn Cyclones isn’t until June 14th, but that doesn’t mean that there won’t be any baseball at MCU Park before the Home Opener. In fact, May is “Baseball Month” on Coney Island with nearly 50 games to be played at MCU Park even before the Cyclones throw their first pitch.

There are games for children of all ages ranging from places like Plainedge Little League on Long Island, to Xavier High School in Manhattan to the Big East Tournament which will welcome colleges from all over the map to MCU Park.

“Last year when we changed playing surfaces from traditional grass to Field Turf, this is exactly what we had in mind,” said Cyclones Vice President Steve Cohen. “After a winter where we saw unprecedented levels of snow, we will still have over 125 events at our ballpark before the Cyclones even take the field. We are thrilled to be able to welcome fans, coaches, parents and players from all over the city, all over the New York-Metropolitan area, and all over the country through the gates at MCU Park during Baseball Month.”

MCU Park will also host their 2nd Annual Education Through Baseball Day on Wednesday, May 14th. This program turns the ballpark into an interactive classroom where students learn about traditional school subjects like math, history, English and science through the unique educational tool of baseball. In addition, students will get to watch a unique exhibition game thanks to the Brooklyn Atlantics Base Ball Club. The Atlantics are a vintage baseball team that will play using the various rules as the game evolved during the late 19th century all the way to modern times.
