July 14th- Brooklyn, NY- The Brooklyn Cyclones (13-13) put an end to a three-game losing streak by defeating the Auburn Doubledays (15-12) by a score of  2-0 on Thursday night at MCU Park. The victory also snapped a five-game home losing streak which had been the longest since the 2005 season.

The Auburn bats were tough to contain in the series opener, a 9-3 setback, but it was Brooklyn’s pitching that had its way tonight as the staff allowed just three hits.

Cyclones’ starter Eduardo Aldama (2-0) provided another masterful performance, tossing five scoreless innings, striking out eight, and allowing just one hit. The righthander, who now has 24 strikeouts in his last three outings, earned his first win since June 22nd versus Aberdeen. He was replaced by Jack Leathersich, who pitched 1.0 scoreless inning with two strikeouts. The lefthander has struck out five of the seven batters he’s faced in his first two appearances of the season.

Newcomer Jose De La Torre, who’s on a rehab assignment from Buffalo (AAA), added 2.0 scoreless innings with four strikeouts in his second appearance with Brooklyn. Hunter Carnevale pitched the ninth inning, earning his first save of the season.

After being unable to solve Doubledays’ starter Brian Dupra (1-1) through the first four innings, Brooklyn finally came through in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Brian Harrison
began the frame with a leadoff walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch before Travis Taijeron would fly out to second. After Xorge Carrillo reached base on a hit-by-pitch and Ismael Tijerina struck out swinging, Danny Muno drew a two-out walk to load the bases. Cole Frenzel, who collected his first run and RBI of the season last night, broke the scoreless tie with a two-run single to right, scoring Harrison and Carrillo.

The Cyclones will conclude a three game set with the Doubledays tomorrow, Friday, July 15 at 7 p.m.  Carlos Vazquez (1-2, 5.55 ERA) opposes Wirkin Estevez (2-1, 4.18 ERA) on Brooklyn Wall of Remembrance Night.
