CYCLONES COMPLETE THE SWEEP WITH 5-2 WIN

June 22nd -- Brooklyn, NY -- The Brooklyn Cyclones (5-1) continued their winning ways at MCU Park on Hangover Night by defeating the Aberdeen IronBirds (1-5) 4-0 on Wednesday for a series sweep and their fourth-straight victory.

After edging the IronBirds in the bottom of the ninth inning on Tuesday night courtesy of a Luke Stewart walk-off double, the Cyclones cruised behind early hitting and a strong pitching
performance by righthander Eduardo Aldama (1-0).

Aldama, who received a no-decision in the season opener versus Staten Island last Friday (4.0 IP, 2 ER, 4 H), carried a no-hitter until a fifth inning leadoff double by Connor Narron. The native of Venezuela provided 5.2 innings, also contributing five strikeouts.

Faced with IronBirds’ starter Parker Bridwell (1-1), who pitched 5.0 scoreless innings with nine strikeouts and zero walks in his season debut last Friday versus Hudson Valley, the Cyclones scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning.

With runners on first and second, J.B. Brown hit a routine grounder that shortstop Mychal Givens fielded cleanly but rushed on the throw which subsequently sailed over first basemen Joe
Vellegio’s head into rightfield scoring Luke Stewart from second. An at-bat later, catcher Nelfi Zapata hit a texas leaguer to centerfield scoring Travis Taijeron for a 2-0 lead.

In the bottom of the third, shortstop Danny Muno laced a double that rolled into the rightfield corner before Charley Thurber drove him in on a double of his own. Brian Harrison followed suit an at-bat later by driving home Thurber also on a double to leftfield. The hit, RBI, and run were the first for Thurber in his professional career.

The IronBirds scored both of their runs in the top of the seventh inning on a wild pitch by Brooklyn reliever Guillaume Leduc and an RBI single to right field by Jeremy Nowak.

J.B. Brown concluded the scoring for Brooklyn in the bottom of the seventh inning with an RBI single to rightfield scoring Danny Muno who finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored. TJ Chism retired the side in order by way of a flyout and two groundouts for his second save of the season.

The Cyclones will hit the road for a two-game set with the Hudson Valley Renegades starting tomorrow night at 6:35 PM. Southpaw Carlos Vazquez (0-1, 3.86 ERA) will oppose righthander Jason McEachern (1-0, 1.80 ERA) before returning to MCU Park on Saturday to conclude the series with the Renegades. Fans in attendance will receive a 2010 Cyclones All-Star Game Baseball.  Tickets are still available and can be purchased by calling 718-507-TIXX, at the MCU Park box office or right here on brooklyncyclones.com.
