Who doesn't love a good old fashioned PB&J sandwich? The Cyclones certainly do! On Thursday March 11th we partnered with One Sandwich at a Time to make over 800 sandwiches to help feed the underserved in the Coney Island area. The mission of OSAAT is to show people that they can create change in their community with their own two hands. Since their inception only a few years ago they have fed over 100,000 hungry New Yorkers. Inspired by their mission, our entire front office staff suited up in some very fashionable aprons, broke out the plastic gloves and got to work! Even our Mascots Sandy & Pee Wee got in on the Peanut Butter Jelly Time! We had a blast working with OSAAT founders Erin Dinan & George Kontogiannis , whose contagious spirit and love for what they do brought an added layer of positive energy to the event.
Being in Coney Island we understand that as an organization we have a social responsibility to get up, give back and make sure that the place we call home is well taken care of. By the end of the event we had made over 200 Ham & Cheese sandwiches and over 600 Peanut Butter & Jelly sandwiches that were then packed up and distributed to various pantries and adult homes in the area. Our staff members witnesses first-hand how appreciative the people of our community were to receive a sandwich. It was a humbling experience to see that such a simple gesture has the power to impact someone’s day.
Not only was this initiative a way for the Cyclones to give back to the community, it was also a fantastic opportunity to work together as a staff. One team one dream people! Side note: even our peanut allergy staff members were brave and participated in this worthy cause. Don't worry, we made sure to put them at the Ham & Cheese station.
No staff members were harmed in the making of these sandwiches.
Keep an eye out for more events in the future. Together we can make a difference, “one sandwich at a time!”
