CYCLONES WIN A WILD ONE

The Cyclones won a wild one at Key Span on Sunday, as they beat Tri-City in extras by a score of 6-5. Sean Ratliff tied the game in the ninth inning when he hit his second home run of the game, and Brooklyn won the game in the 10th inning on a bases-loaded throwing error by the catcher, Jason Castro .

With the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the 10th, SS Juan Lagares grounded back to the pitcher, who threw home for the first out, but Castro's throw to first for the double play sailed into right field, allowing Jordan Abruzzo to race home from second with the winning run.

The win was the Cyclones' second straight, and gives them the series win, improving their record to 33-26 heading into the All-Star Break.

Offensively, Cyclones banged out 12 hits. RF Kirk Nieuwenhuis continued his hot hitting; he went 3-for-5 with a single, double, and home run.  CF Sean Ratliff (pictured, by George Napolitano) hit two home runs in the game.  Abruzzo and Josh Satin each added a pair of hits.  Seth Williams, Eric Campbell and Ike Davis also notched hits for Brooklyn.

RHP Chris Schwinden made his fifth start of the year, and tossed 6.2 innings, allowed two earned runs and struck out eight batters. Yury Santana and Roy Merritt (2-0) followed Schwinden and shut down the door as they held Tri-City scoreless throughout the remainder of the game.

The Cyclones return home after the All-Star Break on Thursday, August 21 and begin and a three game series against Lowell.  August 21 will be EMS night and the first 2,500 fans will receive a T-shirt, presented by Midwood Ambulance.
