CYCLONES SPLIT DOUBLEHEADER

The Cyclones split a doubleheader with Tri-City on Saturday, winning the second game 6-2 after dropping the first game 4-3.  Brooklyn tallied nine runs on 17 hits in the two games, and won their first Saturday game of the season after losing their previous nine games.  

In game two, the Cyclones scored two runs each in the first two innings, and added two more in the bottom of the fifth.  CF Kirk Nieuwenhuis (pictured, by George Napolitano) had his second two-hit game in as many games, going 2-for-3 with a run, an RBI, and a walk.  LF Eric Campbell went 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, and three RBI, and SS Juan Lagares went 2-for-3 with a double as he made his Cyclones' debut in the doubleheader.  3B J.R. Voyles hit an RBI double, while DH Jordan Abruzzo and 2B Josh Satin also added hits in the seven-inning victory.

RHP Pedro P. Martinez worked 5.2 impressive innings to earn his third victory of the season.  Martinez allowed just one run on five hits and a walk with six strikeouts.  RHP Erik Turgeon closed out the win for Brooklyn, pitching 1.1 innings of relief and giving up a run and a hit with one strikeout.

In game one, the Cyclones fell 4-3 against the Valley Cats.  Brooklyn scored two runs in the first inning and got nine hits in the seven inning game.

CF Kirk Nieuwenhuis and 3B J.R. Voyles led the way for Brooklyn, collecting two hits each.  1B Jose Jimenez hit an RBI double back in the first inning, and was joined by LF Eric Campbell who hit an RBI single.  Nieuwenhuis also added an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth.

RHP Jenry Mejia started for Brooklyn, and was followed by RHP Yury Santana, RHP Stephen Clyne.  Mejia pitched 4.2 innings and was relieved by Santana in the fifth inning.  Clyne pitched two scoreless innings and gave up one hit with two strikeouts.
 
The Cyclones will wrap up their three-game series on Sunday beginning at 5:00 pm.  The first 2,000 fans (21 and older) will receive a Carl Erskine bobblehead.  There wil also be a Salute to Sandlot Baseball and kids will be able to run the bases after the game.  Get your tickets now!
