CYCLONES' BATS COME ALIVE

The Cyclones scored four runs in the second inning and never looked back, topping Auburn 9-1 on Thursday night.  The win clinched the series victory against the Doubledays, and it was the first time Brooklyn scored nine runs in a game since defeating Williamsport 9-2 back on the Fourth of July to complete a three-game sweep.

The offense pounded out 16 hits, as five Cyclones collected at least two hits.  RF Kirk Nieuwenhuis had his third multi-hit game in his last five games, this time going 4-for-6 with a double, two runs, and a two-RBI single.  LF Seth Williams went 3-for-6 with a double and three RBI, while C Cesar Cordido (pictured, by George Napolitano) went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored.  DH Jose Jimenez and 1B Eric Campbell each delievered two hits each for Brooklyn, while 2B Josh Satin and SS Matt Smith both hit RBI singles.

RHP Brad Holt (4-3) made his first start since being named to the NYPL All-Star game.  And Holt showed why he was named an All-Star, pitching seven strong innings allowing just one run on three hits while striking out eight.  The eight strikeouts by Holt were the most since he tied the Cyclones' record with 14 strikeouts back on July 24 against Vermont.  RHP Erik Turgeon and LHP Jim Fuller closed out the game for Brooklyn, each pitching perfect innings of relief with two strikeouts apiece.

The Cyclones return home on Friday, August 15th at 7:00 pm to begin a three-game series against the Tri-City Valley Cats. On Friday, there will be Fireworks after the game, with the game presented by Sovereign Bank.
