Cyclones Skid Hits Six With 9-3 Loss

Aberdeen, MD – June 29, 2017 – The Cyclones losing streak reached six games on Thursday night following a 9-3 loss at the hands of the Aberdeen IronBirds. Brooklyn dropped to 2-7 on the early season and has been outscored 54-33. Matt Winaker was the lone bright spot for Brooklyn as the fifth round pick from Stanford went 2-for-3 with two walks in his second game with the Cyclones.

In the second inning, it was the Cyclones who jumped out to the early lead after Reed Gamache connected on a one-out double and would later come around to score on an RBI single from Jeremy Wolf that made it 1-0.

Brooklyn starter Darwin Ramos (0-2) worked in and out of trouble throughout the night, and in the bottom of the third the IronBirds would draw even. Kirvin Moesquit, who went 4-for-5 on the night with four stolen bases, started the frame with a single and quickly swiped second and third before coming home on a Garrett Copeland RBI groundout.

After a scoreless fourth inning, the IronBirds would grab control of the game in the bottom of the fifth with Moesquit’s speed once again at the heart of the rally. The Aberdeen speedster singled to start the inning, stole second and moved to third on a throwing error before scoring on a wild pitch to give the ‘Birds a lead they would never relinquish. Aberdeen tacked on three more runs to chase Ramos from the game and push their advantage to 5-1. Ben Breazeale hit a solo shot in the bottom of the seventh and Ryan Ripken hit a three-run blast in the eighth to push their advantage to 9-1.

In the top of the ninth the Cyclone would push home a pair of runs thanks to an RBI single from Franklin Correa, that scored Dylan Snypes, and later in the frame Correa would score on a wild pitch to make the final score 9-3.

The Cyclones will look to salvage the series finale on Friday in Aberdeen before returning to MCU Park to open a three-game series with the Connecticut Tigers on Saturday at MCU Park.
