CYCLONES TAKE SERIES, TOP CROSSCUTTERS 2-1

WILLIAMSPORT, PA — August 28, 2016 — Cyclones take the rubber game as Merandy Gonzalez (5-3) and three Brooklyn reliever’s hold the Crosscutters to a single run in the 2-1 victory.

Lucas Williams opened up the second inning with a dropped bunt single up the third base line. Gregori Rivero followed with what seemed to be a routine fly ball to centerfield; however, Desmond Lindsay lost sight of it in the lights and the ball landed safely for an RBI triple to give the Crosscutters an early 1-0 lead.

The game continued scoreless for the next four innings as the starting pitcher’s dueled it out at BB & T Ballpark. Ranger Suarez and RHP Merandy Gonzalez were both dominating on the mound. Romero kept the Cyclones in check until the seventh inning when Darryl Knight doubled and then Blake Tiberi cracked a single that forced a pitching change. Carlos Indriago didn't fare any better walking two straight; Dan Rizzie to fill the bases before and Hengelbert Rojas to give the Cyclones their first run of the night. Arnaldo Berrios followed with a single to left field to give Brooklyn a 2-1 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh.

Merandy Gonzalez finished the night with a win as he tossed 6.1 innings. The righthander scattered seven hits over the span and struck out eight before handing the ball over to RHP Adam Atkins who finished the seventh without giving up a run.

LHP Gabriel Feliz and RHP Joseph Zanghi made an appearance throwing an inning giving up a sole hit and zero runs to solidify the Cyclones a 2-1 victory over the Crosscutters.

The Cyclones will return to MCU Park tomorrow night to open a three-game set with the Auburn Doubledays. The first 2,000 fans in attendance will receive a Cyclones fleece blanket to keep you warm during the off-season. Tickets start at just $10 and are on sale now at BrooklynCyclones.com, by calling 718-507-TIXX or in person at the MCU Park Box Office.
