Brooklyn, NY – June 27th – Brooklyn starting pitcher Hansel Robles (1-1) earned his first win of the season Wednesday night, defeating the Hudson Valley Renegades, 4-1. Robles threw 5.2 scoreless innings, retiring the first nine batters of the game in order. He allowed four hits, no walks, and struck out four.

Left fielder Stefan Sabol scored the first Cyclones run of the night, leading off the second inning with a line drive single to center. First baseman Cole Frenzel followed that up with a single of his own, before catcher Jeff Glenn grounded out to second, allowing both runners to move into scoring position. Sabol was then able to score on a ground out by center fielder Brandon Nimmo to give Brooklyn a 1-0 lead.

The Cyclones picked up a couple more runs in the following frame – one off a throwing error by Hudson Valley starter Sean Bierman. Right fielder Eudy Pina began the inning with a double down the left field line to extend his hitting streak to four games. Pina took second on a single by second baseman Juan Gamboa and, with Dimas Ponce batting, came home on a failed pickoff attempt, as Bierman overthrew the ball to first. Bierman was then pulled from the mound and replaced by Ian Kendall after surrendering a single to Ponce. Gamboa, who advanced to third on the play, scored on a force out at second before Sabol hit into an inning-ending double play.

With two outs in the bottom of the fourth, Kendall gave up back-to-back walks to Zapata and Nimmo. Pina then hit an RBI single to center to add to the Cyclones’ lead. Nimmo has reached base in every game this season, and is the only player in the NYPL to do so. He leads the league in walks with 12, while Pina has now collected at least one RBI in each of his last four games.

Hudson Valley reliever Ryan Garton took over for Kendall in the sixth, and struck out the side. Working out of the bullpen for the Cyclones, David Wynn pitched two innings. After Ernesto Yanez got the last out of the eighth, striking out Marty Gantt with the bases loaded, Tyler Vanderheiden came into the game in the ninth and picked up his third save of the season.

The Renegades finally got to the Cyclones pitching in the eighth, as they put one run on the board. Left fielder Joel Caminero, who led off the frame with a single, came home when Wynn gave up his third walk of the inning with the bases loaded.

The Cyclones will begin a three-game series against the Aberdeen IronBirds tomorrow night, Thursday, June 28, at MCU Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM. Tickets are available now by visiting the MCU box office, calling 718-507-TIXX, or CLICKING HERE.
