July 24th- University Park, PA—The Brooklyn bats were silenced and a three-game winning streak was put to an end as the Cyclones (20-16) fell to the State College Spikes (11-26) by a score of 5-1 on Sunday night at Lubrano Park.

After amassing 32 runs in their past three victories, the Cyclones’ bats were unable to muster any sort of consistent offense. The bats collected seven hits but only one run showed for the effort. Brian Harrison finished 0-for-4 and saw his hitting-streak halted at seven games while Javier Rodriguez finished 3-for-4 with three singles.

The Spikes wasted no time getting a run on the board as Alex Dickerson doubled to left with two outs before he was brought home on another double by Chris Lashmet for a quick 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. State College plated another run in the bottom of the third after Alex Fuselier leadoff the frame by tripling to center and was brought home in the very next at-bat on a single to left by Samuel Gonzalez.

The Cyclones narrowed the deficit to a run the following inning, the closest they would get, after Travis Taijeron hit a leadoff solo homerun to left off of Spikes’ starter Zack Dodson.

Dickerson responded with a two-out solo homerun of his own in the bottom of the fifth inning off of Brooklyn starter Eduardo Aldama (2-1). The strikeout artist, who entered the night with a 40 punchouts, struggled in his eighth start of the season allowing three runs on eight hits in 5.0 innings.

Nursing a 3-1 lead, the Spikes’ added two more unearned runs off in the bottom of the sixth inning off of reliever Eric Beaulac on a single to left by Carlos Mesa and a fielding error by Richard Lucas that scored Mesa who had reached third by way of two stolen bases.

Josh Poytress (1-2) earned the win in relief after adding 2.1 innings of scoreless relief while Mitchell Fienemann retired the side in order for his fifth save of the season. Fienemann entered in the bottom of the eighth inning with two outs and the bases loaded but a force out by Nelfi Zapata ended the threat.

Brooklyn will conclude a three-game set with the State College Spikes tomorrow at 7 PM. The Cyclones will return to Coney Island on Wednesday for the first of a three-game series with the Connecticut Tigers. Carlos Vazquez (2-2, 3.66 ERA) will battle Nicholas Kingham (1-2, 3.60 ERA). The Cyclones will welcome their 3,000,000th fan to MCU Park on Wednesday and they will have a chance to win $30,000.
